Bird, 34 years old

Meet Bird, who works at “The Birds Nest Cafe” (the similarity in their names merely a coincidence). Radiating positivity she tells me that positivity is something you have to learn, turning it into a habit even when it means faking a smile. Eager to connect with people coming from a range of different backgrounds she finds the diversity of others to be the most essential ingredient to a happy life. However, if someone rubs you the wrong way Bird has a trick, hit them and tell them there was a mosquito- it lets you get out some aggression without the other person knowing! Positive, present, and perhaps a bit feisty….

How do you define a successful day?

The weather is good, good food, and work with good colleagues. It is very good when you meet a very interesting person, who teaches you something new, shares new stores, opens new visions, lets us know about new things.

If you had the possibility to get a message across to a large group of people, what would your message be?

Be positive and start each day with a smile.

What one book should everybody read?

“No Destination” by Satish Kumar. Tells the story of a man’s experience walking around the world. It shows us how people change based on their experiences.

How has your life been different than you thought it would be?

It’s not different because I have no expectations. I am just curious about what will happen, not what I thought it would be, what happens in the future could be very exciting.

Why is your life beautiful?

My life is beautiful because I have a chance to experience so many things, meet interesting people, and I have a good family which is really important to start with. The foundation is everything and the rest is just extra to make life interesting. To have a good foundation you have to be satisfied with what you have. You have to know how to live a simple life, then you can live anywhere and be ok. When you know the word enough, it is enough.

Who has been the most important person in your life?

My family- Mother, Father, Aunts, Uncles, because they have given me a good foundation. Thanks to them I don’t have to worry, if I have problems I have a place to go back, so I am not afraid of anything. Even if I am pregnant with no father, my own father would help me. When you have a good building with a good foundation it is a good start. Maybe the building is not beautiful but it will not fall.

What makes you laugh without fail?

When someone cuts a fart in a public area, I can not stop laughing.

What is your favorite place in Chiang Mai?

The Mae Have area off of Canal road. It is so close to Chiang Mai yet it is like you are on a small road in the jungle. In a small village, with little shops, a coffee shop called “Waterfall”, surrounded by the mountains, you can get a natural fish pedicure in the creek.

What are you proudest of in your life?

I can live with little things. Also I can see the beauty in small things. Red flowers against the blue sky. There are so many beautiful things in the world you don’t have to go far or buy them.

What business would you love to start?

Make a place for kids to learn about gardening. My Mom made a lot of money but spent hardly any because she got food from our own garden, kids should know this to survive.

What was the strangest date you have ever been on?

With an American physicist, no explanation needed!

What could you talk about for hours?

Different kinds of people from different countries, their experiences and their stories.
